Beskids - Moravian Wallachia
Did you know that?
Grúň, Kyčera, Grapa – names which you will not encounter anywhere else in the CR than in the Beskydy. Settlers brought then from Uhersko, who were driving their herds of sheep here. They determined the shape of the mountain with the names – whether there are grazing fields or forests on them. "Grúň" means extended mountain crest, "grapa" is a gorge, steep cliff and "kyčera" signifies a steep hill with forested areas.
Beskydy mountains – the specific picturesque look of the hilly landscape full of typical wooden cottages, original folklore and proverbial hospitality of the locals shows that visitors will like it here! There is something here for everyone. From castles, chateaux (Hukvaldy, Starý Jičín, Štramberk etc.) through numerous technical places of interest (Šance,Tatra Kopřivnice water reservoirs) to the extensive sports options. The Beskydy are a haven for golf, paragliding, trekking and cycling. You can also find cable centres here, a number of ski resorts (Visalaje, Grůň, Lysá Mountain, Bílá, Mezivodí) and decades of cross-country trails. You can even relax in an alternative way here. Try for example a beer bath in Štramberk, or an aroma bath in Palkovické hůrky, or an herbal bath in Komorní Lhotce or the water park in Olešná.
