In the 15th century, the family of the lords of Kravař belonged among the wealthiest and politically most powerful families. Legend says they acquired their name according to a cowherd, who rescued the daughter of the castle lord from a bear – he married her and was promoted to a knight of Kravař. The wound shot on the coat of arms is in memory of the victory of the little warrior, who tore his rivals moustache off and wound it on an arrow.
Odra revir – Moravian Kravaře region are mainly extensive meadows, flooded on a regular basis by the Odra River, whose meandering flow gives the local landscape an irreplaceable character. The landscape's uniformity and tranquillity create an exceptional impression, capable of entirely capturing you. As one of the few rivers in the Czech Republic, the Odra River has managed to maintain its natural character with meanderings, ponds, pools and blind shoulders. You can spend hours here and hours just taking walks or going on a cycling trip, without even encountering anyone. You can also visit historical monuments (chateaux Kunín, Fulnek, Bartošovice etc.), discover technical points of interest (water and windmills, railway museum) or set off for places which were influenced by the lives of significant persons in history (Jan Amos Komenský, František Palacký, Sigmund Freud, Johann Gregor Mendel).
