Opavian Silesia
Did you know that?
Opavian Silesia was one of the most fortified places along the northern borders of CSR with Germany in 1938. There were 18 reinforced-concrete fortifications built in the area and more than 140 "light" smaller fortifications. Among the most interesting are Darkovičky, Smolkov, Milostovice and others. A number of them is accessible to the public.
Opavian Silesia – a flat landscape along the Opava River between the Beskyds and Jeseníks. The centre of it is the old royal town of Opava, in which you will encounter its extensive history at every footstep. However, Opava is pleased to also show you its new face – repaired buildings and a square with abundant greenery, modern recreational and sports centres. There are numerous interesting places in the entire region that invite visitors to take a stroll or a long walk. The most dominant character is the unusual combination of romantic chateaux with several military fortifications. In Opava you will find a number of concrete fortifications and combat technology, war cemeteries and monuments. Several cycle trails lead through the undemanding terrain, The Beech Pavement in the chateau park in Hradec nad Moravice is a highly sought after trail with beautiful viewing points. Sport lovers will appreciate the golf courses in Kravaře and Šilheřovice. Opavian Silesia is popular with fishermen as well. Hlučínská gravel pit is a haven for "amateurs" who can catch their fish at the trout farm in Bělé.
